Why Use a Dog Harness?

Dog Harnesses Are the Most Posh & Practical Accessory

Dog collars get all the spotlight attention, but dog harnesses are an amazing alternative that shouldn’t be underestimated. Here’s our guide to why you should use a dog harness and the benefits to your pooch, with tips on how to fit your new dog gear.

Calm Control

A harness is an investment in your dog’s comfort and better control for you as their pet parent. Using a harness distributes pressure across your dog’s body and acts as a gentler form of guidance, rather than tighter collar tugs and pulls.

Tip: Some dog harnesses are designed only with thin straps, and while they look beautifully simplistic, they’re not comfy for your pup! You want a dog harness that looks the part AND feels sensational, so opt for a harness with full support

Many dog harnesses come with multiple D-rings to attach your lead, which gives you ultimate flexibility and control. Chilling at a cafe? Attach your lead to the front of their harness so they can rest beside you outside. On a run? Attach your lead to the back D-ring for high-speed control.

Pro Tip for Avoiding Collar Slips

One of the first things you buy for your puppy is a dog collar, and chances are, that dog collar is going to be WAY too big for your little sidekick! So when you take your puppy on their first walk and they pull on their lead like a trained sled dog, they’re going to slip right out of their collar.

POV: You’re panicking outside with a lead and collar in hand, not attached to any puppy, while your pup goes wild for freedom and runs off without you. We’ve been there…

So how do you avoid this situation? Get a harness for puppies! See why a harness is the best option for puppies on their first walks.

A Gentler Alternative

Your puppy is still growing and their joints are more delicate than a fully-sized dog, so excessive lead pulling isn’t going to do their little body any favours.

Even for adult dogs, a harness is a much comfier and safer option because it takes pressure away from their neck and instead distributes it across their body.

Tip: Remove your dog’s collar, part their fur, and check their skin for redness, rashes, and signs of chafing. Walking your buddy on a dog harness can give their skin a break from the stress it undergoes from always using a collar and lead set for walkies.

Will a Harness Fit My Pup?

Yes! The extra padding in our harness for dogs and puppies makes them snug and comfy for any body type—whether you’ve got a chunky pup or a total fluffball.

Because our dog harnesses are fully adjustable with easy clip attachments on both sides, you can pick a size that your pooch will grow into. Simply tighten the straps to fit their smaller frame, then loosen them when they inevitably stack on that puppy pudge!

How Do I Properly Fit My Dog’s Harness?

Start with the size guide provided with the dog harness. Measure your pooch and grab a harness suitable for not only their current size but the size they’ll grow into (remember, our harnesses are fully adjustable!). Clip your new snazzy harness on your pup, tighten the front and back straps as needed, and pay close attention to these details:

  • Can your dog walk and run comfortably in their harness?
  • Can they sit and rest comfortably in their harness?
  • Can you slide two fingers underneath their harness around their neck and tummy?

You want their dog harness to fit snuggly but not rub tightly against their skin. If they pass all these checks, then it’s time to take your bestie for a walk to see the harness in action!
